Rap in full means Rhymes and Poetry , and its a style of music which involves in saying multiple words in a row to form a particular line either very snappy or at a moderate speed rate.

According to Wikipedia's definition of the action.

Rap can easily be said as one of the best music genre of the 21st century alongside hip-hop, RnB and Pop. There are different form of rap music, which Battle Rap is one of them.

What Is Battle Rap:
Battle rap is a form of where where two or more individuals try to outwit their opponents with rhymes and insulting also including braggadocios flows, either directly or indirectly.

A rap battle can go many different ways. There are
freestyle ones, there are pre-written ones, and
there are ones that mix the two. There are rap
battles on beat and there are rap battles that are
a capella. There are one-on-one battles, two-on-
two battles, or cyphers where everyone can take a
turn. However, the ultimate goal of any rap
battle is to demoralize, insult and/or embarrass
your opponent(s) until you are crowned the victor.
Here’s how it’s done!

According to Wikipedia

Battle rap (also known as rap battling ) is a
type of rapping that includes bragging, insults
and boasting content. Battling can occur on
recorded albums, though rap battles are often
recited or freestyled spontaneously in live
battles, "where MCs will perform on the same
stage to see who has the better verses".

And battle rap is mostly done by potential upcoming and underground artist trying to show to the public that they got what it takes to be among relevant artist in the rap music scene, and winning a rap battle could give you a chance to gain the spotlight.

A lot of popular rappers that are currently on the top in the hip hop scene started off as underground battle rappers examples include Eminem, Kanye West, Notorious B.I.G, Meek Mill, Royce da 5'9..etc.

Winning a battle rap could possibly give you the chance to get out in the music scene and show your talent to a wider audience, and in today's post I'll be giving you some tips in this post on how to get the edge over your opponent in a battle rap.

Steps

1. Practice Your Freestyle:

According to Wikipedia

Freestyle is a style of improvisation with or
without instrumental beats, in which lyrics are
recited with no particular subject or structure.

Although freestyle should and necessarily is to be formed during the process of delivery, freestyle can actually be practiced and mastered so as to be familiar with the phase when you are in the process of doing a freestyle rap. Practicing freestyle should be done mostly without beat so as to keep you on a neutral level when you are in the battle mode making you able to work with any beat. and try to use your current situation or activity to freestyle at the moment. Also have in mind that when firstly trying to learn how to freestyle get your mind off trying to rhyme because it would be equally difficult due to the fact that you are working out your words and saying them out at the same time and may get you stuck , so find a way to remove your mind from trying to rhyme , which would come naturally later with a little dictionary practice. Also keep in mind that you may say really less meaningful things and at times fall to saying gibberish but just keep on with the vibe and it would be fine in a couple of weeks with regular practice.

2. Write Punchlines Down:
During your course of freestyle you may encounter really cool punchlines that you actually spit out of reflex and they would sound really cool to lace upon an opponent, so do yourself the favour of writing them down and mastering them so you can be able to use them against your opponent.

3. Practice Rhyming:
Yes this can be done by using the dictionary or getting a rhyming application on your phone. Its said that American superstar rapper Eminem at the earliest part of his rap pursuit almost read a whole dictionary because he wanted to increase his vocabulary in rhyming although he was really bad at English which made him drop out of school. So you could get a dictionary write a word down and try to find a word that rhymes with it then find more words that rhyme with it and master it. With time you could do the offhand practice of trying to rhyme words together in a short period of time with a stopwatch so as to boost your vulnerability during a rap battle freestyle.

4. Be Calm And Smile:
When you get on stage to battle be sure to stay calm and put a smirky smile on your face so that you don't get nervous and laugh at your opponents raps a little or just grin. Don't forget look them straight in the eyes at any opportunity you get , this could throw them off balance whilst they try to throw punchlines at you.

5. Master The Beat:
Now, its your turn to backfire you should take a few seconds to get used to the beat or instrumental used by the DJ. Or you should probably use the time your opponent was using to rap and get used to the beat.

6. Strategy Of Dropping punchline:
When you finally want to start your own part of i face out i suggest you speak clearly so everyone can hear your and use your written punchlines to start off the battle. Exactly use your best punchlines to start off the battle so as to get the crowds wilding and also at the ending so the crowds would be shouting as you drop the mic.

7. Connect With The Crowd:
You are not rapping for your appreciation so do not look at the floor like some primary school kid, Look towards the crowd and tell them what you want them to know that is messy about your opponent like his/her clothes, account statement, hairstyle, family background or whatever. You should as well look at his current appearance and use that against him like saying he has a nice new shoe that your cousin abroad wore and threw it into the waste bin 6 years after and like his hairstyle is so bad that you would prefer going bald than having what he has as a hairstyle.

And don't forget to end with a Power filled punchline.

These steps could take time to take effect on whoever tries to practice them but surely they would work out just fine.
